Drug, human trafficking raid leads to many detained at Antioch night club

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A large law enforcement presence reportedly raided a nightclub in connection to a drug and human trafficking investigation on Sunday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., the FBI confirmed they began executing an authorized search and arrest warrants at the Miami nightclub at 2045 Antioch Pike in Antioch, Tennessee.

One man who was in the nightclub when the raid happened said the agencies were looking for someone.

INTERPRETED FROM SPANISH: “There were a lot of people in panic and afraid of everything and being arrested,” said Leónidas Zelaya. “After everything became normal, they released us.”

Zelaya said that after an hour of being detained and sitting in the grass, he was released.

Another man who was inside the nightclub when the raid started said there were a lot of people in tactical gear in a warzone.

“You could hear stun grenades going off,” the man who wanted to remain anonymous said.

The raid led to many being detained and questioned by law enforcement agencies.

Eventually, the people detained were let go.

District 32’s Council Member Joy Styles confirmed that the raid involved a drug and human trafficking investigation.

Styles said other businesses in the area were also engaging in the illegal activities. As a result, she said there will be more of a police presence in the area.

“In Antioch, we’ve had an issue with these nightclubs in strip malls,” Styles said. “It was Miami today, it was Soho House on Bell Road a few months ago. I’ve had the Skybar Lounge. There was another nightclub in a strip mall down Antioch Pike. I’m not really sure what the allure is to having a club/lounge which is where most people are coming to do regular day-to-day activities, but I think that it’s a stupid idea and I hope people will stop doing it.”

Styles said the other strip mall clubs she mentioned weren’t investigated for drugs and human trafficking and that they were more so noise-related and some were involved in shootings.

District 28’s council member, David Benton, will have a meeting on Wednesday to discuss what happened.
