Fire Country Season 3 Finally Gives Manny & Gabriela Their Overdue Talk (But Is It For The Better?)

Manny and Gabriela finally patched things up in Fire Country
season 3, episode 9, but their heart-to-heart must prove a change of behavior will follow, or their relationship won’t survive in the long run. Learning that Gabriela had stumbled onto a road where the wildfire was soaring already convinced Manny he would have left the rest of Three Rock to try and find his daughter in Fire Country season 3, episode 8. Manny’s Fire Country season 3’s winter premiere focused on that, at great risk for himself, as he braved the wildfire alone and his actions counted as running away.

Ever since Gabriela chose to stop the wedding in Fire Country season 3’s premiere and Manny learned about it from Vince, the father-daughter duo couldn’t see eye-to-eye. Gabriela only learning in Fire Country season 3’s premiere that Manny was arrested also didn’t help, bringing back all the negativity she harbored after the first time Manny left Gabriela to go to prison. Manny believing Gabriela didn’t make the right choice and Gabriela not wanting to be by Manny’s side as he once again had to serve time made their season 3 fight the biggest they ever had in Fire Country.

Manny Finding Gabriela In The Fire Finally Forces The Two To Talk

Manny finding Gabriela in the wired fence and bringing her to safety made the long-awaited talk between father and daughter unavoidable. Indeed, Cooper’s Ridge’s wildfire running unencumbered forced Manny and Gabriela to confront their feelings, without giving them the chance to run away – as staying in the camp’s toilets protected them from the fire and Manny didn’t need to follow Three Rock’s rules, as he had already broken them by searching for Gabriela. For the first time in Fire Country season 3, Manny had the chance to express regret for his words and Gabriela could finally tell his father everything.

Manny & Gabriela Have Seemingly Patched Things Up, But Major Problems Remain

Gabriela finally telling Manny about having drunk alcohol to numb her feelings and dived from the cliffs to feel something instead let Gabriela talk to the one person who could have understood her the most ever since she started behaving erratically. After months of avoiding any kind of accountability, putting distance between herself and her loved ones, baring it all to her father proved the step Gabriela needed to take to change her future. Similarly, Manny admitting he regretted judging Gabriela instead of understanding her proved a willingness to try and truly change things for the better in their relationship.

While there are reasons to see Manny and Gabriela’s talk as a watershed moment, their last scene in Fire Country season 3, episode 9 hinted at Manny and Gabriela possibly falling into their usually dysfunctional dynamic. Manny proposing himself as her guide after telling her she reached rock bottom and Gabriela trusting him to lead her out of the woods after all re-established the pattern of Manny deciding what’s best and Gabriela following him, a major problem in their relationship. Manny needs to realize he should really try to understand Gabriela in Fire Country, or their relationship can never flourish.
