A Ted Lasso star emotionally addresses a potential season 4 return. Apple TV’s flagship comedy series, co-created by and starring Jason Sudeikis as the titular football coach, aired what was believed to be its third and final season in 2023. However, over a year after the season 3 finale, there was some movement on Ted Lasso season 4 as Warner Bros. TV, the studio behind the show, started reaching out to some of its stars to see if they were available for another season.
Now, during an exclusive interview with ScreenRant for the home release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Cristo Fernández addressed a potential return in Ted Lasso season 4 as Dani Rojas. The actor expressed a deep love for the show and his character, saying that Dani’s motto “Football is life has meant so much to so many people.” Fernández would return “for free” if given the chance, though it’s not his decision to make, and he remains hopeful for more Ted Lasso and Dani Rojas in the future. Read his full comments below:
I would love to see Dani. I recently did a campaign for State Farm where I played Dani Rojas with Patrick Mahomes and Jake from State Farm. And even though it’s a short thing to do, I just had a great time. Ted Lasso has meant so much to me, not only to me as an actor, and having more opportunities and work, but just a message that has spread to so many fans around the globe. I’m sure to you too.
Football is life has meant so much to so many people. I am just forever grateful with that. And again, I don’t have the decision. If you ask me, I want to be back. I will just do it for free. I don’t care. I just want to be part of that because at the end of the day, that’s what we do.
I’m developing my film company, Spectrum X Films and with my sister Paloma Cinco. We have now some movies in cinemas. So if you happen to come to Mexico, you can watch them. If not, hopefully soon. But I just hope that with my work, I can inspire so many people just the same way Ted Lasso has inspired so many people.
And I hope there’s more. I hope there’s more Ted Lasso. I hope there’s more Dani Rojas.
I think what I’ve learned the most from Dani is that life is complex, life is complicated. There’s, you cannot only be happy. There’s also black and white, there’s light and shadow. But regardless of what happens, I think it’s always important to know why you do certain things and remind yourself of the passion while you do certain things.
And Dani is always passionate about a game. He embraces his life with the joy and reminds us of that kid we all have inside us. So if I have a stressful day, I try to remember the positive aspects of why I do what I do. And Dani reminds me of that. Unless Dani’s playing for the national team, then he gets angry. That’s some of the lessons I’ve learned from Dani.
Who’s Returning For Season 4?
In August 2024, when Warner Bros. TV was reaching out to the Ted Lasso cast about their availability, reports indicated that Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) were all likely to return. Reports also suggested that Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) would not return as a main cast member due to his commitments to other projects, though he could still make guest appearances. Cristo Fernández is clearly interested in returning, meaning that Dani Rojas, the free-spirited young forward from Mexico, could be another AFC Richmond player who returns in season 4.

Other than Fernández, not many cast members have spoken about the future of Ted Lasso and have been hesitant to confirm reports of its return, leaving it up to lead star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis to make any official statements. However, co-creator Bill Lawrence has hinted that Ted Lasso season 4 might serve as a reboot, meaning that many original cast members and characters might not return. Overall, the status of season 4 is shrouded in mystery and many, including Fernández himself, are hoping that a formal announcement will be made soon.
Our Take On Ted Lasso Season 4’s Returning Characters
It Needs AFC Richmond Players To Come Back
As it stands, the fate of Ted Lasso season 4 remains uncertain. While some suggest it could be a reboot with fresh faces, other reports indicate that original cast members are in talks to return. Regardless of what shape the next chapter takes, it’s hard to imagine Ted Lasso without Dani Rojas, the heart of AFC Richmond, returning. After all, Dani’s motto “Football is life,” as Cristo Fernández passionately reminds us, “has meant so much to so many people.”
