Manchester United’s first signing of the summer transfer window is expected to be Sporting CP wonderkid Geovany Quenda, according to reports in Spain.

United have been linked with the teenager since he made his debut for Sporting in August, under Ruben Amorim. Now the Portuguese is in charge at Old Trafford, Quenda is expected to follow him to Manchester.

Under contract until 2027, Quenda is wanted at United to complement Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. After becoming Sporting’s youngest league scorer earlier this season, beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s record, Quenda has been watched closely by United.

Patrick Dorgu was signed in January but MEN Sport understands that United remain open to signing the Portuguese. In November, the club met with agent Jorge Mendes, who is now negotiating on behalf of Quenda.

Now, A Bola have reported that Quenda is ‘expected’ to join United in the summer following talks over a price tag. The report has suggested it is now ‘inevitable’ that he will leave Sporting at the end of the current season with the Red Devils having ‘reserved’ the 17-year-old.

Furthermore, it’s suggested that Quenda will cost around £50.5million with Sporting aiming to record historical numbers in sales this summer. Viktor Gyokeres has also been tipped with a move to Old Trafford but other clubs seem to be leading the race for the striker.

United are expected to be in the market for a number of players in the summer. However, the new 100,000 stadium plans and PSR concerns mean the budget may be restricted for Amorim.
