A 61-year-old man was fatally shot at a Texas McDonald’s over the weekend while picking up Happy Meals for his grandchildren.
During an altercation at the McDonald’s in Katy, Texas on Sunday evening, Jorge Arbaiza, an innocent bystander, was shot multiple times. He was life-flighted to a nearby hospital but later died from his wounds, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
At the time of the shooting, Teresa Abaiza, Jorge’s wife, was inside a vehicle in the McDonald’s parking lot with two of their grandchildren. Jorge had run inside to grab the grandchildren Happy Meals, Teresa told Houston television station KHOU.
When Teresa spotted people from inside the restaurant running outside, but didn’t see her husband, Teresa called him. That was when she learned he had been shot.
“‘I’m dying. I’m going to die,'” Teresa told KHOU her husband of 39 years said to her.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a social media post over the weekend that it appears two parties began fist-fighting in the McDonald’s when at least two guns were pulled out and shots were fired. Several customers were inside the restaurant during the time of the shooting, including children. A 26-year-old man was also shot during the shooting but survived, Gonzalez added.
As of Wednesday, Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crime Detectives, Homicide Detective and Crime Scene Detectives were continuing to investigate the shooting. Multiple security cameras helped the detectives identify a suspected vehicle and several people involved in the altercation, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Those with more information should contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Office at 713-274-7100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
